Oh that looks amazing!! I love anything with caramel and I love cake so the two together is making me swoon, lol. Looks beautiful and I can only imagine how good it tastes.
Oh.....I am not only a cake lover but a Paula Dean lover. I just recently made her Key Lime Pie. Though it tasted good, I know I didn't do it right....long story. I will have to try this one. I just started a new recipe link party. Can you check it out and link up if you have time?
This is just what I was looking for (for a bake-off!). I did a test run and mine didn't look anything like yours! My filling was like water and didn't drip down the sides--it just ran everywhere and made things mushy! Help! What did I do wrong? :)
@Sarah - Let the filling cool down a bit (and thicken). Once you pour it over the cake, pop the whole thing in the fridge to let it all set. I did this and made the caramel icing the next day.
If you're still having no luck, try the caramel recipe I posted for sea salt caramels and only heat the mixture to 225F on the candy thermometer...then pour it over the cake after it cools about a minute.
Wow, this looks so good! Thanks! I need your help! I need you to vote! A few more votes will make the difference in winning!
I tried letting it heat longer and then I tried to let it completely cool. No luck! It never got any thicker than syrup--and the color was pretty similar too! It's more like a caramel tres leche cake now. Oh well, yours looks delicious though!
Oh. My. Lord. Guess who's making that cake for guests this weekend?? You're right--it's ALMOST too pretty to eat, but I think I'll make the sacrifice! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! That looks so yummy! My husband has a serious love of caramel. Perhaps I'll make this for his birthday. It's never really occured to me that one would make their own caramel, so I'm interested to try that too!
Thanks for linking this up to my blog party today!
